Living the HI life: 3 Things To Start Living More Positively

It’s been exactly 3 months since I’ve left my beautiful Kauai.  It has become a home away from home a beautiful abundant place on God’s gracious earth with amazing people and friends, fabulous food, wonderful hospitality and a mindset, a way of living that is now a part of me. Since I’ve come home I’ve replaced clean air, moist skin, ocean waves and the adventure of being in lush jungle to the good old Utah inversion and city air, dry desert skin, loud rambunctious children, laundry and pure joy!

Not quite sure you see the parallel?

Most people come from a dreamy vacation and have a month hangover and a 3 month withdrawal period before they can adjust coming back to “real life” learning “coping” skills to just get through the day. Now to be honest I’m a natural worrier, think and then worry, worry and then think back and forth creating an internal Armageddon on a daily basis.  I used to say sometimes…”You do not want to live in this head of mine some days!” But over the past few years I’ve come realize that whatever the situation, whatever the challenge, whatever the slump you may “think” you are experiencing…there is a CHOICE in every moment of everyday to create a personal Kauai. We have control of our thoughts…it is the one thing that God gave us; a personal connection that through Spirit we have everything we need.  Everything we need to create a personal Kauai is right between our ears!

While visiting Kauai this last time for the 2nd annual Master Key Retreat I was out running along the beach.  It was a dark overcast morning before most people were even out of bed.  The usual 5am alarm clock roosters were running all over the island and I was just enjoying the sound of the waves…it was the calm before the storm.  I got about a mile and a half into my run when the winds came up and the waves turned into giant white caps; mother-nature showing off her power as the waves would crash into the sandy shoreline.  It literally was as if someone opened up a faucet and it was coming down directly on me….yet in that torrential downpour with soggy running shoes and squishy socks I was completely happy and willingly I turned my head upward and just let the rain come down. The the important thing is the parallel we can draw from that story.

uchtdorfrainandumbrellaquote

How many times during a rainstorm or downpour in our lives do we shun from the rain trying to put up umbrellas and wonder, why is this happening to me? Why can’t anything just go right? Or

In that moment another little moment of wisdom came to me that it is my choice…to change my mind to see that moment…to see every moment as a complete miracle or as an inconvenience, disaster, annoyance, frustration… all my choice.

Personal Kauai or desert wasteland? …All my choice…

Fear and doubt are the fruits of  control.  When we let go of our need to control everything in life and trust then can we let down the umbrella and receive.

This doesn’t mean that every day is going to be perfect and a “dream” vacation.  Challenges and experiences are here for us to grow and sometimes things happen in life that are just stinking hard. The caveat…how they shape and mold us are a conscious or even a subconscious choice every single time.

With a couple of daily exercises I’ve come to realize how freaking amazing my life is even amongst challenges: injuries, lost jobs, stress about work, worrying about selling a house, anxiety about moving a house full of stuff, business, economy, politics, sick kids, spilled food on the clean floor and the mounds of endless laundry ….sound familiar? The choice we have is in repentance…I know you your thinking what?

We have the opportunity to have a repentant mind set and to practice again and again being perfected in the progression of practice.  You see in Greek (because the root of all words come from the Greek language…haha…see if you can guess where that one comes from) Repentance denotes a change of mind or a fresh view.  This was such a beautiful epiphany for me…life is about making choices that give us a slight change of mind…in fact so slight that it takes only 1 billionth of a volt of electricity to take on a  new view or change of mind to start creating YOUR  personal Kauai on a daily basis!

For me these 3 daily things have been the key to creating that slight change in my mindset to bring that fresh and abundant view to life.  These are simple and they take very little time.  Some of these may not be new to you but it was through creating the HABIT that these actually stuck for me.  I’ve learned through this amazing course that I’m apart of, called the Master Key Mastermind Alliance that…

First,

Show gratitude everyday and everybody knows that if it isn’t written down it isn’t true.  So whether it’s a journal, index cards, or a gratitude poster show gratitude for at least 3 things every day.  Studies show that people who have gratitude and show it everyday are 37% more happy on a daily basis.

Second,

Meditation and prayer daily is vital…to commune and collaborate with your higher power. Individuals that consistently find stillness have more clear minds and are more focused in the efforts, tasks and goals on a daily, monthly, yearly basis stringing together a lifetime of knowing who you are, what you want and where you are going in life.

Third,

Reading regularly the 7 Laws of the mind.  These laws are Universal truths and they speak truth to me personally. When I found these laws through the Master Key Experience that I mentioned earlier I knew that these were true principles to live by and they have CHANGED my life! Read them regularly and often.

LAW OF SUBSTITUTION

We cannot think about 2 things at the same time. If a negative thought enters your mind – try to think about Source/Universe/Higher Power/God instead. If that is too big a reach at the time, use any fond memory or other pleasant thought. Watch we resist persists. The Master Teacher said, “Resist not evil” – meaning don’t resist it but instead turn from it and think about something else instead.

 LAW OF RELAXATION

Mental effort defeats itself – It’s the exact opposite of physical effort. A relaxed, calm state of mind is the only doorway to mental progress. Relaxation of thought is the only access to Infinite Intelligence.

LAW OF PRACTICE

Practice makes perfect. Our bewilderment of magnificence in others, upon further inspection we find is really just practice. With practice of the correct things, we improve on the other 6 Laws of the mind.

LAW OF FORGIVENESS

To access the Divine and connect the subconscious to the Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent Creator we must forgive everyone and anyone to clear the channel. There can be no connection to the Divine mind where anger or resentment against a brother or sister justified or not, exists.

LAW OF DUAL THOUGHT

Thought is a combination of ideation and feeling. We can attach any feeling to a thought we want.

LAW OF SUBCONSCIOUS

As soon as the subconscious accepts an idea it becomes a demand and it works constantly, 24-7, to manifest that demand – accessing a reservoir of infinite resources.

LAW OF GROWTH

Whatever we think about grows. What we forget atrophies.

These three simple things are a great place to start.  Most people realize there is so much knowledge and truth…in fact it’s completely abundant! But knowledge isn’t power as the old saying goes…it is actually the APPLICATION of knowledge through a working plan of action that makes things a reality.

Inspire-Do it now…your Personal Kauai is waiting!
